You asked indirectly a very convoluted question. The Internet as a whole can handle terabytes of data a second that's 1000 GB a second. Side note, Ashburn, VA is responsible for 70% of the world's internet.

First factor is how is the online class being provided, is it being done at the university on university servers then the university's bandwidth would have to be evaluated. If the university is using cloud computing Amazon, Microsoft Azure, Cloudflare, etc. they have multiple data centers with multiple links that could more than handle the need of streaming. Side note two, neighbor up the street deploys Amazon data center infrastructure around the world, very interesting.

Second factor do all the students have access to high-speed bandwidth, each student probably needs about 5 Mbps bandwidth to support streaming.

Third factor is the different ISPs being used, if they have peering agreements they can cache/redistribute a stream without using "internet" bandwidth.
